“This piece was my journey in processing grief over losing three relatives last year in the middle of a pandemic. It made me think about how each person we meet can leave us very specific memories in such a short period of time. I hope to celebrate and keep those moments alive through this painting.”
Anna Dominique Santos is a Bulacan-based multidisciplinary artist and Reiki II practitioner. She started painting in 2016, primarily as a safe and healthy emotional outlet during a time when words escaped her. Her themes have evolved over time alongside her spiritual journey. She paints her safe space for the world to see, as an offering to spectators that they may find safety in her art too.
Intuitively using acrylic textures, high contrast, loose silhouettes, and abstraction in her storytelling, she asks the viewers if they remember a certain memory, an inside joke or even a secret - a reminder of our shared humanity that art can surreptitiously do so well.
