Huni ng Ibon: Flowerpecker
Brenda Rodriguez grew up in Pulilan Bulacan and was surrounded by art in her bloodline*. She did not however pursue art early on. She graduated in the field of Psychology in 1994 and spent the next 17 yrs building a career in HR. But her creative passion that has been brimming had to be unshackled as she crossed over from corporate life to make way for her arts. In 2011 onwards, she took up crash courses in fashion designing, beadworks at the Fashion Institute of the Phils Makati Branch and cake decoration at Chocolate Lovers in QC but did not take off eventually as she focused on building her own family. Fast forward to the pandemic era when there seems to be no better time than now, she picked up her brush and finally unleashed her creative alter ego. Not wanting to spend for her art education in the midst of uncertainties during the pandemic, she resorted to the Academy of the Self-Taught route and just trust in her innate God-given talent. Online video tutorials and old art books passed on by her artistic parents came in handy. Then came Art Show Philippines’ (ASP) open calls which aim to help budding artists sell their works and from then on, she never turned back. She is now a regular exhibiting artist of ASP which opened up a plate full of opportunities for other group exhibitions by other organizers. She particularly enjoys sharing her talent to art causes and fund-raising exhibits as she is able to help those in need through her art. She is now also an active member of the Philippine Fauna Art Society which enables her to help raise awareness of our Philippine endemic and endangered fauna.
