Collection: Guyor

Afflicted by a tumultuous colonial history, these 26 artists from Pangasinan reflect upon their shared culture and experiences. Guyor in Pangasinan means pulling, and as artists, the main aspiration is to highlight their local artists and their roots. Together with this notion most of the participating artists are self-taught.

And by believing in the idea that there is such a thing as completely self-taught at least in a way that we think what was saying that they haven't been taught by someone else. We were always constantly learning especially online via a platform like youtube online form and critics comment there, social media and we even get comments from people in real life for school, from our professor. The only person who goes out there and says that they are completely self-taught person are the one that goes out in the world into nature, grabs their paints and their pencil, and just draws and paint what they see without looking out any other artwork or listen to any feedback of anyone else.

The concept of this idea could think anyone with true artists and creative soul stumbles upon other work that inspires them, they have the drive to create or recreate something similar, and many times they find that they can`t do it. So they want to figure out how and what they need to do. Do they want to do that as quickly as possible? And that is often many of us begin to look for learning and inspiration from others. In addition, it can be dangerous to take a lot of pride in the fact that we might be self-taught because it can very easily limit us from reaching our true potential.

Pangasinan artists, Denmark Dela Cruz, Aeron Dizon, Darl Nobleza, Carl Zarcilla, Prince Logan, Dr. Ann Theresa Bolos, Wenny Licuanan, Marco Dispo Cañas, Mona Vince, Queene Marzan, Boni De Guzman, Domeng Cruz, Vern Pascual, Jerwin Catuan, Richard Celeste, Mak delos Santos, Jeffrey Somera, Abet Sison Angelika Panlilio, Gerardo Roque Jr., Kevin Vila, Van Zachary Turingan, Dr. Noli Dela Cruz Jr., Ariel Cancino, Kinoo Padlan, and Frenk Sison, explore their local culture, art influence and create a well-executed artwork, while they inspire, pull (guyor) each other and create a creative connection on their art community.

As Salvador Dali quotes, A true artist is not one who is inspired but one who inspires other.
